HONG GOES BACK TO BACK AT THE BONVILLE CHAMPIONS TROPHY!

December 12, 2016

The Jack Newton Junior Golf Bonville Champions Trophy has wrapped up in emphatic style for 2016. 54 of NSW best junior golfers descended on Bonville Golf Resort in a 3 day, 72 hole tournament that would have even the best amateur golfer scratching their heads.

Bonville Golf Resort partners with The Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation as a major show of support for junior golf in NSW. As a premier Australian golfing destination, players work all year to gain an invitation to the Bonville Champions Trophy. Bonville Golf Resort creates a professional level golf event that challenges and inspires aspirational young golfers and supplies food and beverage and accommodation to all players across the week at no cost to the foundation.

Players moved through 2 days of competition over 27 holes each day in an attempt to make the cut for the final and after early thunderstorm delays played with the momentum of the tournament, the leader board turned upside down over the closing holes on day two. Castle Hill’s Jordie Garner took a one shot lead into the final round in the boys division. Bella Kil from Avondale Golf Club remained on top of the leader board in the girls division; however she was matched by defending champion Hannah Park from NSW Golf Club whose round of 68 took her into a share of the lead.

In a thrilling finish that came right down to the wire, defending 2015 Champion Jason Hong from Castle Hill Golf Club backed up his 2015 victory with another shooting 5 under par for the 72 hole event. Hong edged out Jordie Garner who finished runner up with 3 under par for the tournament.

Bella Kil of Avondale Golf Club finished a very consistent week winning the 2016 Girls Championship by 2 shots and finishing with an overall 3 over par for the tournament from defending champion Hannah Park of NSW Golf Club.

A stand out performance and very special mention must go to Sophie Yip from Concord Golf Club who at 12 years old was the youngest ever to make the 54 hole cut. Sophie finished in style shooting a par round of 71 for her final round which moved her up to 9th place overall.
