The 25th Anniversary of the Bonville Amateur Ladies Classic attracted 114 ladies from 32 different golf courses to tee off in the popular annual tournament.
The rain stayed away for Fridays ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ themed cocktail party and after a night of frivolity, players teed off for their first round, aiming to set themselves up for a Sunday round that would cement a place in the winner’s circle.
While Saturday remained fine for players, Sunday’s mid-morning lightning storm made for a tricky finish to the weekend, with a two hour delay mid-round. The multi division tournament has a long history as one of Australia’s most popular amateur female competitions with Division one players playing a stroke event and divisions 2-4 competing in a Stableford.
Division One was hotly contested with Jan Crichton (Killara) carding a two round, gross tournament score of 155 to win the event, defending her title from 2020. The event was not held last year due to Covid restrictions/closure. Gross runner up was Bonville’s own Christine Clark who took home the prize with a 2-round total 167 to place runner up on a countback.
Nett Winner, Royal Canberra’s Margaret Bain Smith produced a 36-hole tournament total 145 playing off a handicap of 11 and Adrienne Smith (Bonville) was Nett runner up, posting a tournament total 151 playing off a handicap of 14.
Local knowledge assisted Dora Habgood winning the division 2 competition with 65 Stableford points, followed closely by Deb Northwood (Lynwood) finishing with a tournament total 64 Stableford points.
Division 3 players Jennifer Nelson (Woolooware) and Pam Geddes (St Michaels) finished first and second with tournament totals 67 and 58 Stableford points respectively. Division 4 prizes went to Armidale’s Judi Hansen who finished with a 36-hole total 64 Stableford points and Pauline Whitehouse (Mirage Country Club) finishing runner up with a tournament total 62 Stableford points.
