Relatively new member to Bonville Golf Resort, Phil Maunder has cemented his name in the course history books by winning one of the members most prestigious annual events, the Bonville Golf Resort Mad Masters Monday. Phil shot an excellent 75 off the stick for a Nett 68 in the 18-hole stroke event on Monday after a consistent round of well-placed tee shots and solid putting.

Runner-up Garry Barnes shot a round of 71 Nett, that on any other day would have made him the mad masters champion. Garry praised golf course green staff for the set-up of the course where tricky pin positions combined with tee shots off the black markers set further back made the game as much a mental one as a physical.

Peter Arnold shot a solid Nett score of 75 for 3rd place on a countback from Warwick Mordue who also won the gross prize.

Starting at 5am Bonville members enjoyed a chef cooked breakfast while watching the final round of the US Masters and making their way to their respective tees for the beginning of the 18-hole shotgun event. The Mad Masters was slightly delayed after the battle between Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia tied at 9 under par at August National went into a playoff. Sergio eventually donning the prestigious jacket in a thrilling end to the 2017 tournament.

The Bonville course and Clubhouse mimic certain aspects of Augusta for this event with sectors such as ‘Amen Corner’, ‘Magnolia Lane’ and ‘Butler Cabin’ signposted along the course. A very special prize consisting of a pair of very special US Masters wine glasses were awarded to David Featherstone who posted the best score across Holes 10, 11 and 12 which form the infamous ‘Amen Corner’ at Bonville.

Members end the day with a lunch overlooking the 18th hole and presentation with prizes that come direct from Augusta. The event celebrates its 17th year.

Bonville Golf Resort commonly known as ‘Australia’s Augusta’ attracts golfers from all across the country. The busy weekend of golf was coupled with a heavy advertising campaign based around the US Masters tournament at August National in Georgia. The campaign included digital, social and National television advertising for the release of the newly created Stay, Play, Experience, Bonville Golf Resort television commercial created by local production company Coastal Media.
